About us

East Midland Zoological Society has been running Twycross Zoo for almost 60 years in the heart of England. Twycross Zoo is an award-winning conservation and science-led zoo. We are rapidly growing, and pre-Covid, were welcoming over 600,000 people every year to our 100-acre rural site.

We are an ambitious organisation keen to drive the conservation and scientific aspects of the zoo to new heights as well as optimising on commercial advantages. We are the only zoo in the UK to house all 4 great apes - Gorilla, Orangutan, Bonobo and Chimpanzee - and we care for some of the most endangered animals to the highest welfare standards, including an extensive primate collection plus tiger, leopard, giraffe, rhino, penguin, flamingo and giant tortoise represented.

The Role – Management Accountant

Working closely with our Head of Finance, as the Management Accountant you will produce regular and timely reports to ensure that the Management Team have the information needed to run the Zoo profitably and efficiently, producing monthly management accounts and reliable income figures for all trading activities of the Zoo.

Using your excellent attention to detail, you’ll regularly analyse all income streams and under the guidance of the Head of Finance, work with Department Heads and the Executive Team to produce the annual budget. Your duties will include, although not be limited to:

• Producing detailed budgets with reports to highlight areas for improvement
• Driving the understanding of key commercial impacts for the organisation through profit centre reporting
• Meeting with budget holders monthly to discuss budgets, performance and forecasts
• Working on capital investment proposals and the on-going capital projects
• Maintaining the Fixed Asset Register, and preparing VAT returns
• Producing the monthly management accounts timetable and month end close, and monitoring deadlines
• Overseeing payroll processes alongside the Head of Finance, including the administration of the pension schemes
• Providing line management to other members of the finance team

Our Requirements – Management Accountant

• Be fully qualified ACA, ACCA, or CIMA
• Proven experience as a Management Accountant, ideally gained within a charitable organisation
• Proven experience of budget process / development
• IT literate with excellent knowledge of Microsoft Excel, ideally Sage 200
• A passion for delivering excellence both in reporting and in general duties
• Superb problem-solving skills
